Xermaménil

Xermaménil is a commune with 563 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Luneville, to Canton Gerbéviller and community association Mortagne.

Geography

The community Xermaménil is at the lower Mortagne, shortly before its confluence with the Meurthe, about ten kilometers south-east of Luneville, in the south of the department of Meurthe- et- Moselle.

History

The village was first mentioned in the 12th century. The place name has evolved from Sarmanmasnil ( 1178 ) on Xarmamenil ( 1296 ), Xarmanmengny ( 1304) and Xermamesny ( 1316 ) developed the modern common Xermaménil. On the eve of the French Revolution was Xermaménil and surrounding lands the men Riste from Nomeny.
