The Xi'an Jiaotong University (Chinese西安 交通 大学, Pinyin Xi'an Jiaotong Daxue, English: Xi'an Jiaotong University; short form: JUX or XJTU engl. ) Established in 1896 Chinese university in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. The name " Jiaotong " is the transcription of the word交通Chinese, Pinyin Jiaotong. It means " transport ", " transportation ", " communication " and " connection".

The Xi'an Jiaotong University is a member of the C9 League, the Chinese equivalent of the American Ivy League. The C9 League was created in 2009 and brings together the nine most prestigious universities in China.

History

Xuanhuai Sheng (Chinese盛宣怀, Pinyin Sheng Xuanhuai, 1844-1916 ), Minister of Transport of the Qing Dynasty founded in 1896 in Shanghai, " Nanyang Public School " (Chinese南洋 公 学, Pinyin Nanyang Gōngxué ), which later became Jiaotong University emerged. The Jiaotong University was one of the best universities in the Republic of China ( 1912-1949 ).

After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the then central government decided in 1956 under the leadership of Prime Minister Zhou Enlai to resettle Jiaotong University to Xi'an. This should education and industrial development in the western regions are encouraged. The move began, despite controversy, in 1956. By the end of 1957, 65% of faculty and teaching staff, and over 60 % of the students came in Xi'an. In 1957, the central government decided after extensive investigation and debate for sharing Jiaotong University. The already relocated part founded in Xi'an a completely independent University in Shanghai and the remaining part was to develop them further. He is known as Jiaotong University Shanghai today.

Campuses

The JUX has three campuses, all located in the city of Xi'an.

Xingqing

The Xingqing Campus (Chinese兴庆 校区, Pinyin Xingqing Xiaoqu ) is the main campus of JUX. It is named after the Xingqing Palace (Chinese兴庆宫, Pinyin Xingqing Gong ) of the Tang Dynasty, who was here once.

Yanta

The Yanta Campus (Chinese雁塔 校区, Pinyin Yàntǎ Xiaoqu ) is the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Economy and Finance. The campus is called " Yanta " because he near the Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Da Yàntǎ ) is located.

Qujiang

International Cooperation

On 23 May 2006, the Xi'an Jiaotong University, founded in partnership with the University of Liverpool in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province of the People's Republic of China, Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University (short form: XJTLU ). It is a natural and engineering sciences university with an additional emphasis in English. The teaching language is English, most schools have a high percentage of international professors. Students receive both a degree from the Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University and a graduate of the University of Liverpool.

Faculties

According to QS World University Rankings, the JUX belongs permanently to the ten best universities in the People's Republic of China. She is the highest ranked university in western China.
