Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is the airport of the provincial capital Xi'an, Shaanxi in the People's Republic of China. It is the largest airport in northwest China and is 43 km away from the city center.

History

In 1984, the planned State Council of PRC to expand the airport. The expansion of the airport was divided into several phases, so that the old Xi'an Xiguan airport could be closed after completion of the first phase in 1991. Since 2000, more conversions and extensions ( terminal building, cargo terminal buildings and hotels ) have been made. On 3 May 2012, a second start and runway and a third terminal building were put into operation.

The airport was used by both sides ( Japanese and Chinese / Americans ) as an air force base already in the Second World War.

Since 2008, the Fraport AG Fraport Asia Ltd. holds. 24.5 percent of the airport management company.
