Tourism

In 2002, 673 718 tourists visited the city of Xiamen, also due to its attractive coastline. But essential part of tourism is likely to be of Chinese tourism.

Major destination Xiamen, the island is only a few hundred meters away, Gulangyu, which is car-free and allows a view of the city Jimei school and on the mostly belonging to Taiwan island of Quemoy group. The crossing in standing with the passenger ferry that brings the track in a couple of minutes behind costs, there and back 8 RMB (Nov 2013). On Sundays, the ferry is closely filled. The island can be " hike " good in half a day. The paths are - Chinese tourism developed - not a natural way. The island is actually a gem of colonial architecture. Unfortunately, the condition of the buildings and the surrounding land is often miserable. There is much left to decay rate, although it would certainly worthy of preservation, particularly from a tourism perspective. The Organ Museum is disastrous from museum perspective. The aviary corresponds obviously not (more) international standard. Highlights: the statue of Zheng Chenggong ( Koxinga called ) and the Sunlight skirt ( 63m ), the latter with panoramic views from the highest point of the island. The island offers a paradigmatic example of a Chinese tourist attraction with its street vendors, restaurants and Devotionalienläden etc. Tourist attraction is also the seaside, traditional-style campus of Xiamen University.
