Xinu

Xinu both a recursive acronym for " Xinu Is Not Unix" ( German for " Xinu is not Unix" ) and a reverse read "Unix " is a small and very sleek multi-tasking operating system. It was written in the 1980s by Professor Douglas Comer for teaching purposes at Purdue University. It has been ported to many computer architectures, including on PDP -11, VAX, Sun 3/ 50 PowerPC G3, MIPS and Intel x86.

Xinu was used in addition to Minix especially in colleges and universities in computer science for training purposes and is characterized by the reduction to the absolute minimum by compactness and clarity. The system and the processes it can be understood very quickly.

Xinu is hardly used today. It has been designed for 16- bit Systems and never ported by the proportion of assembly language on 32-bit. Also the use of Linux and its source code freely available is a great competition. Xinu can also not be used as a production system.
