The satellite XM -5 would have to be brought by the company Sea Launch into orbit in the second half of 2010. After the bankruptcy of Sea Launch, this contract was canceled in October 2009.

Technical Details

The XM signal uses 6 separate channels in a 12.5 MHz piece of the S band from 2332.5 to 2345.0 MHz, with only 2 channels carry different data, the remaining 4 as redundancy ( diversity reception ) used to safeguard the quality of reception. In each of the two channels up to 100 data channels (radio programs ) in multiplex with 8 kbit / s are transmitted. As an audio encoding format aacPlus is used, where real / s arrive at the receiver 4-64 kbit per data channel.
