XMind

XMind is a brainstorming and mind mapping software that is developed by XMind Ltd. from Hong Kong. It is available in free and paid versions, and is cross-platform, as it is based on Java.

History

The software development started in 2006, XMind XMind 2007, and in 2008 published a year later. In 2008, XMind 3 was released. This version was the first that was licensed as open source and also available as Pro version for the subscription price.

Functions

The program aims to support the user in capturing, structuring and visualization of concepts, ideas, learning content or projects. Besides mind maps organizational charts, Gantt charts, cause-effect diagrams, trees and tables can be created. Documents can be shared online. The paid versions have additional features, such as a Word, PowerPoint, and PDF export.

Versions

XMind is dual licensed under the Eclipse Public License v1 and the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.

There are versions for Windows (also known as portable software ), Mac OS X and Linux.

Awards

XMind 2008 received an award as Best Commercial RCP Application at EclipseCon 2008, XMind 3 became the Best Project for Academia at the SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards nominated and chosen by PCWorld among the top ten Productivity programs of 2010.
