XPInstall

XPI or XPInstall ( Cross-Platform Install; pronunciation: / zɪp.i / or English as a pronounced ' zippy ') is a system developed by the Mozilla Foundation file format for installation files.

XPI files are installed to extend the functionality of a program. Programs such as Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird or other XUL -based applications use XPI.

An XPI file is a ZIP container, of an install script; contains ( install.rdf earlier install.js ) and other files. The XPI file can be opened with any standard packer program that can handle the ZIP format, eg with the built-in mechanism in Mac OS or Windows. Optionally, the file extension must first be changed to. Zip.
