XULRunner

XULRunner is a runtime environment for applications running on the " XML User Interface Language" (abbreviated: XUL ) again. It is developed by the Mozilla Foundation. The program uses its libxul the Gecko engine library. All XUL -based applications such as Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, or media player Songbird can be ported to XULRunner. XULRunner also provides an environment for the installation, deployment (ie, distribution and installation, including configuration ), updating and uninstalling these applications.

Applications that require the Gecko engine without the XULRunner runtime environment use libxul the library, such as Galeon or Liferea.

History

The first " Developer Preview" of XULRunner was released in February 2006. The Mozilla Foundation was planning to port their XUL applications, such as Mozilla Firefox XULRunner. One advantage that would result from this would be that you would have to install a XUL / Gecko runtime environment only once with XULRunner, which could then use all other XUL applications. So far, a separate XUL / Gecko Runtime Environment has been installed on each individual program. Mozilla's first officially issued XULRunner application was the Linux version of Mozilla Firefox 3.0.
