Y Not is the thirtieth album, or the sixteenth studio album by Ringo Starr after the breakup of the Beatles. It was on February 26, 2010 in Europe (USA: January 12, 2010) published. In the U.S., the album reached number 58 in Germany number 75 in the charts. In the UK it could not place itself.

Genesis

Ringo Starr broke up during the recording of Liverpool 8 by his longtime producer Mark Hudson, so that he was working for a studio album as a senior producer for the first time. As co-producers chose Starr Bruce Sugar, 8 participated previously as a sound engineer in Liverpool.

Although Ringo Starr after the completion of the studio album Liverpool 8, the announced end of the collaboration with his backing band The Roundheads, Steve Dudas played on the album continued the guitar and Ringo Starr wrote the song with Gary Burr Can not Do It Wrong.

The recording time for the album are not documented, they ranged probably about the year 2009. On this album were again prominent musicians such as Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, David A. Stewart and Joss Stone involved. It also had (former) members of the All- Starr Band, as Richard Marx, Billy Squier and Edgar Winter with.

Ringo Starr was in each of the ten songs co-composer. All compositions of the songs were written according to a statement by Ringo Starr in the studio. On the album two duets were published, Who's Your Daddy with Joss Stone, who was also Mitkomponistin, and walk with You with Paul McCartney, who also played bass on the song Peace Dream, the the of the ideas of John Lennon and Ringo Starr on peace is. The song Y Not includes musical obeisance to George Harrison. Everyone Wins is a re-recording of a song that was released on the CD single Do not Go Where the Road Do not Go in Germany in September 1992. The song The Other Side of Liverpool is the second tribute to Liverpool 8, from the same album, to Starr's hometown with partially autobiographical text.

Y Not is the first album by Ringo Starr which was released by Universal Music Group. In the U.S. Y Not reached the second highest chart position since Ringo's Rotogravure, which appeared in 1976.

Single releases

The only single Walk with You appeared previously on 21 December 2009 as a download single. The single did not place in the UK, in Germany and in the U.S. in the charts themselves. In the U.S., a promotional CD with the song Walk with You was distributed to the radio stations.

A publication in the LP format was the first time since the album Time Takes Time, published in 1992.

Reissues

The CD release from 2010 has not yet been newly remastered.
