Ya'akov Hodorov

Yaacov Hodorov (Hebrew יעקב חודורוב; born June 16, 1927 in Rishon LeZion, † December 31, 2006 in Jerusalem) was an Israeli football player. He was the first goalkeeper of the Israeli national football team after the founding of Israel in 1948.

By 1964, he was 31 times in goal for the national team. He was regarded by many Israelis as a folk hero. Due to its performance in the World Cup qualifier against Wales was Hodorov 1957 the top 5 best keeper. In this game, which Israel lost at the end of 0-2, he was not replaced, even though he had been at the beginning of the broken nose. With a broken hand, he played in the qualification for the Olympic Games in front of 70,000 spectators in Tel Aviv against the Soviet Union. This game also lost his team 1-2.

1957 Hodorov won with his club Hapoel Tel Aviv the League Cup, three years later, the National Cup.

In 2006 he was honored for his services, the highest award of Israel, the Israel Prize, awarded.
