Yaakov Chaim Sofer

Yakov Chaim Sofer (* 1870 in Baghdad, † 1939 in Jerusalem ) was an charedischer rabbi, Talmudist, Kabbalist and Posek. He is the author of the monumental halachic work Kaf Hachajim ( published 1910 et seq ), under which name it is known also as a person.

Since his early youth he devoted himself to Talmudic studies. He was a pupil of Abdalla Sommech and later Ben Ish Chai student of. Since 1904 he lived in Jerusalem, first learned in the Yeshiva Beit El and then up to his death in the yeshiva Schoschanim Ledawid, where he mainly included in the women's section and far removed from all worldly distraction that authored eight volumes of his main work. At this time he was also Aw Beth Din of the Babylonian communities. At his funeral, thousands of people participated.
