Yaakov Herzog

Yaakov Herzog ( Hebrew יעקב הרצוג; born December 21, 1921 in Dublin, Ireland, † 1972) was an Israeli diplomat.

Yaakov Herzog was born in 1921 in Dublin, the second son of the Chief Rabbi Isaac Halevy Herzog. His older brother was the later Israeli President Chaim Herzog.

In 1939 he emigrated to the British Mandate of Palestine and became a member of the Haganah. Duke was educated in Jerusalem at the Harry Fischel Institute for rabbis. He then studied law at the Hebrew University. At the University of Ottawa, he received a doctorate in international law.

Duke served in 1956 during the Suez crisis as a personal adviser to Prime Minister David Ben- Gurion. In addition, he is regarded as one of the architects of relations between Israel and the Vatican. After Duke from 1957 to 1960 at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC had worked, he was appointed Israeli ambassador to Canada. This post he held from 1960 to 1963.
