Government

Yabrud (also Yabroud or Yabroud; Arab يبرود, Yabrūd DMG ) is a Syrian city. It is located about 80 km northeast of Damascus city, west of the M1 and about 20 km east of the Lebanese border.

Yabrud has 45 257 inhabitants (calculated 2009).

Attractions

The Greek-Catholic Church of Constantine and Helena has been built from stones of a former temple of Jupiter. In addition to some valuable icons It also contains capitals of Roman columns. While the Syrian civil war, the cathedral was the end of September or beginning of October 2013 damaged by shelling the Christian residential area with tanks.

The Syrian important archaeological place of Yabrud lies to the east of the mountain chain of the Anti-Lebanon to approximately 1400 m. During his " adventurous " bike excursion Alfred Rust discovered the find site in September 1930 and examined him. In the years 1931 to 1933 excavations were carried out. The finds were brought from Rust to Germany in the Institute of Prehistory and Early History of the University of Cologne. On three rock shelters distributed a total of 45 cultural layers.
