Yachtmaster Coastal

The English Sportbootführerschein RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Coastal (formerly Coastal Skipper, as amended 1 January 2009) is roughly comparable to the German sport coastal certificate ( SKS ). However, the conditions for the acquisition of the Yachtmaster Coastal are stricter than the German counterpart and the practical test is considerably more extensive (see test). In addition, a distinction is made between "tidal " and "non- tidal " - ie whether the owner can demonstrate experience on tidal waters or not. Should include the words " Tidal " of the license, at least 50 % of the access requirements in recognized tidal waters (eg not in the Baltic and in the Mediterranean not ) be purchased in advance.

Requirements

Basically you need:

  • Qualifications for radio (SRC / VHF and GMDSS)
  • First Aid according to RYA standard ( additional special requirements regarding measures hypothermia and damage caused by drowning)
  • Sailors' experience.

When sailing experience is distinguished whether a Course in RYA / MCA training center is visited before the test or not, because who already has sailing experience, may also provide directly the test ( also on her own keel ).

Without RYA Course the following conditions apply:

  • At least 800 nautical miles
  • 30 days at sea on board
  • Two days at sea as skipper
  • 12 hours night driving.

When visiting the respective courses in RYA / MCA training center (course and examination min. 5 days ), the conditions reduced as follows, which also recommended a preceding theory course at an RYA / MCA training center

With RYA Course the following conditions apply:

  • At least 300 nautical miles
  • 15 days at sea on board
  • Two days at sea as skipper
  • 8 hours night driving.

Theory and practical tests

The exams take place exclusively in English, no matter in which country the examination is held. Frequently Yachtmaster Coastal and Offshore will be considered together, since the contents are identical and only the claim is different.

The theoretical examination includes a comprehensive trip planning in the RYA training cards that must be created on the basis of an unknown task of the auditor, in writing and practice- based. The task are boat, sea area, crew composition, start / finish before etc.. It usually includes tidal waters, Mehrtägigkeit, team management, security plan, etc. and always leads through difficult passages. So a cruise with family crew must be planned differently than with an experienced crew. This planning will be forwarded to the examiner before the practical test and defended during the Prüfungstörn.

The practical examination will be held on board takes as follows:

  • For a candidate: 6-10 hours
  • For two candidates: 8-14 hours
  • For three candidates: 20-28 hours
  • For four candidates: 24-32 hours.

The rule is that only the minimum duration is hereby defined that can extend its sole discretion of the examiners. It should be done no testing with more than four candidates:

The practical examination includes a real cruise corresponding to the total duration of tests that must be planned by any candidates ( for itself ) at any time to take over as skipper, but it is normal that in between the destination is changed by the examiner ad hoc, to examine how adequately responded.

However, it is not only the ability tested as a glider, but overall the maritime and implementing technical skills ( among others also on careful team management, catering, no - tell, etc.). Focus is always the security field. To start a test usually with the deck Walk so-called and the safety briefing the team, each test participant assumes a portion of the control or instruction.

During the Prüfungstörn comprehensive and in-depth theoretical questions are asked to all areas of the yacht guide, the answer must always include a detailed justification. During an off duty the next year program created as a theory test is defended, for example. In addition, understanding of maps, concrete defects like sound and light signals, etc. queried.

The main difference between Yachtmaster Coastal and Yachtmaster Offshore is in addition to the entry requirements, the number of mistakes you can not afford. The Coastal candidate may still have minor weaknesses, the offshore candidate should be faultless reach the set Törnziel.

Yachtmaster Offshore

Evidence Yachtmaster Offshore similar to the German Sportseeschifferschein (SSS ). However, the focus is compared to the SSS on the practical skills and less on extensive theoretical knowledge. The Yachtmaster Offshore is internationally the most important certificate for professional yacht skipper.

Requirements

Requirements for obtaining the Yachtmaster Offshore, evidence of completed trips that meet the following criteria in total:

The " Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence " is valid indefinitely. For commercial use a so-called "Commercial Endorsement " is required. The validity of the Commercial Endorsement is limited to five years. To extend the proof of the successful work as skipper or Deputy skipper and a health examination by a physician in accordance ship ENG1 is required.

Examination

See Yachtmaster Coastal.

Yachtmaster Ocean

The Yachtmaster Ocean is similar to the German sports offshore ship-appear.

Requirements

Practical requirement is an ocean passage as skipper or watch captain, was performed and documented during this celestial navigation. In addition, must be submitted to hypothermia and drowning a valid First Aid Certificate according RYA standards.

On theoretical knowledge is assumed that the following passages may be planned (and have been well implemented in practice ):

  • Of at least 600 nautical miles non-stop
  • Day trips with at least 50 nautical miles from land.

To obtain the Yachtmaster Ocean Yachtmaster Offshore owner of the need to take an additional theory test, among other things on the subject of celestial navigation. It also requires a practical proof of "Ocean Passage", in which the celestial navigation was applied and documented.

Examination

Before issuing the RYA Yachtmaster Ocean, the documentation of an RYA Yachtmaster Examiner is checked after the event. Any questions need to be answered in a personal conversation between the auditor and the DUT. The activity of celestial navigation and documentation must be defended downright
