Yacuma Province

Yacuma is a province in the central part of the Beni Department in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

The province is one of eight provinces in the department of Beni. It is bordered to the west by the province Ballivián, to the south by the province Moxos, on the southeast by the province Cercado, on the east by the province Mamoré, and to the north by the province Vaca Díez.

The province extends approximately between 12 ° 00 'and 15 ° 28' south latitude and 65 ° 00 ' and 66 ° 37 ' west longitude, their extent from west to east is up to 110 kilometers from north to south 285 km.

Population

The population of the province Yacuma has declined slightly over the past two decades:

48.8 percent of the population are younger than 15 years, the literacy rate in the province is 80.4 percent.

98.7 percent of the population speaking Spanish, 1.8 percent Quechua, Aymara 1.1 percent, and 10.3 percent other indigenous languages. (1992)

60.7 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 38.4 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

84.2 percent of the population are Catholics, 12.2 percent are Protestant (1992).

Structure

The Yacuma province is divided into the following two municipios ( counties ):

  • Municipio Exaltación ( 25,049 km ²) in the northern part of the province - 13,181 inhabitants - 0.5 inhabitants / km ² (2010)
  • Municipality of Santa Ana del Yacuma ( 20,897 km ²) in the southern part of the province - 16,291 inhabitants - 0.8 inhabitants / km ²
