Yaesu VX series

The VX -8R is a walkie-talkie from the Japanese company Yaesu.

This handheld radio is available in Germany since mid-2009, in the U.S. it has been advertised more. It is a robust and immersion -proof device to IPX7 standard for the 6-meter, 2 -meter and 70 -cm amateur bands with a power output of 5 watts. It allows the simultaneous reception of two frequencies, is also the volume and noise threshold for each recipient separately adjustable. The now standard DTMF, DCS and CTCSS functions are just like the Yaesu ARTS typical available. Similar to the IC - E92D ICOM here is not a standard but a special socket ( seven poles, as in FTM -10) used to connect the external microphone or programming adapter. In addition, the headphones are connected via a 3.5mm jack. The dual-band operation of each receiver is shown separately on the right and the left earpiece. In the single - band operation on both earphones and the radio reception in stereo through the earphones. For the first time, a handheld radio (similar to the mobile transceiver FTM- 10) equipped with a Bluetooth device, so you can use normal Bluetooth headsets for radio operation.

According to advertising a modem for 1k2 and 9k6 is installed, but it can (unlike the TH- D7E Kenwood ) can not be addressed from "outside ", but is only available for the internal APRS system. For Packet Radio ie, an external TNC is required, the manual makes no statements about the possible data rates. Due to the connection of the microphone and earphone jack and since the menu does not switch 1200-9600 baud is available, it is likely that only 1200 baud data rate are possible.

For the APRS operation, a special GPS receiver can either be installed directly on the device or an external microphone. Obviously it is not possible to connect GPS devices from other manufacturers or output the received data except via the display of the device. The GPS position can be entered manually.

For the end of April 2010, two new version of this radio device have been announced for the U.S.: Both versions are characterized by advanced APRS functionality ( for example, smart beaconing ) from. The Yaesu VX- 8DR version mechanically corresponds to the well-known VX- 8R, it is also announced that existing VX -8R devices can be extended to the VX- 8DR. In the version VX- 8GR the housing is changed, the GPS receiver is integrated into the device ( and thus no longer to assemble than something external disturbing unit ), but no Bluetooth unit can be installed. This variant has to connect the speaker microphone on a 4-pin Klink -jack without screwing like the Yaesu VX- 6R and is not more than waterproof, but only specified as splash proof.

Furthermore, the VX -8R has a barometric unit over which the altitude and the air pressure can be passed via APRS. Bands can be scanned completely or in a specified range ( -1/2/5 MHz ).

The frequencies of important short-wave broadcasting stations are pre-programmed as the VX -7R already in its own memory bank.

The "Emergency Automatic ID" mentioned function allows the transmitter remotely activated via a CTCSS tone pair - to locate persons or to contact, who are no longer able to do this on its own
