Yahoo Maps

Yahoo Maps (proper spelling Yahoo! Maps, and Local Search, Yahoo driving directions and Yahoo Local) was an Internet mapping service from Yahoo, which allows you to search for resorts, hotels and other objects to use them on maps and images ( satellite and aerial images to consider ).

In Yahoo Maps to get free tickets to other Internet mapping services like Google Maps and Bing Maps, aerial photographs and satellite images to view. In addition to the data provided can use various services, including for local search and route planning.

Development and History

Yahoo has discontinued its mapping service on 13 September 2011 and the use of Nokia Maps, the map service from Nokia recommended.

On 16 May 2007, Yahoo has released a new map style, which was designed by the company Cartography Cartifact. Data and images were supplied by Cartifact, including features such as the relief surface properties and land cover tones and the main climate zones.

The road network and other vector data that are used in Yahoo Maps, are from the companies from Navteq, Tele Atlas and public domain. Detailed road network data are currently available for the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and most European countries. Country borders, cities and waters are shown for the rest of the world. The satellite image is available worldwide.

Yahoo Maps provides maps and directions for the United States and Canada. One of the following features are to some extent also available worldwide:

  • Address: Registered users on Yahoo can save your frequently used addresses.
  • Live traffic: incident markers and current highway conditions can be displayed on the map.
  • Points of Interest Finder: SmartView ( tm ) can be used to find businesses and other points of interest near your current location, with clickable icons with address, phone number and links for more information.
  • Directions: A map can be found on the map or in printable form. Links to directions can be sent by e -mail.

Web Services

Developers can use the Yahoo Maps Yahoo Maps Developer APIs embed in their own Web pages (up to a mashup create ):

  • Flash API: Uses the Adobe Flash Platform, enabling developers in JavaScript, ActionScript, Adobe Flex 1.5 can write.
  • Ajax API: for interactive maps without Flash plugin. Ajax applications are written in JavaScript.
