Yakima County, Washington

Yakima County is a county located in the state of Washington of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Yakima.

Geography

The County is located in the Cascade Mountains, the highest mountain is Mount Adams ( 3,742 m above sea level. NN ). The two largest rivers in the county are the Yakima River and the Columbia River. The County cross- clockwise to the counties: Kittitas County, Grant County, Benton County, Klickitat County, Skamania County, Lewis County and Pierce County.

History

The county was founded on 21 January 1865.

According to the census of 2000, there were 222 581 people in the county. There were 73 993 households and 54 606 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 65.60 % White, 0.97 % African American, 4.48 % Native American, 0.95 % Asian, 0.09 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 24.43 % from other races groups; 3.48% were descended from two or more races. 35.90% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 73 993 households out of which 39.70 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 55.80 % were married couples living together, 12.50 % had a female householder with no husband. 26.20% were non-families. 21.50% of all households and 9.60% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.96 and the average family size was 3.44 persons.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 31.80 % under the age of 18, 9.80 % from 18 to 24, 27.50% from 25 to 44 years, 19.70% between 45 and 64 years and 11.20% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 99.60 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.10 males.

The median income for a household was $ 34,828, and the median income for a family was $ 39,746. Males have a median income of $ 31,620, women $ 24,541. The per capita income was $ 15,606. 19.70% of the population and 14.80% of families are below the poverty line. 27.20% of those under age 18 and 11.30% were 65 years or older.
