Yakov Flier

Yakov Vladimirovich Flier (Russian Яков Владимирович Флиер; * 8 ​​Oktoberjul / October 21 1912greg in Orechowo - Zuyevo, .. † December 18, 1977 in Moscow) was a Russian pianist and piano teacher.

Flier studied piano at the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Konstantin Igumnov. In 1938 he was in third place behind Emil Gilels, which had been previously placed behind Flier another competition, and Mary Johnstone at the first Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. He was known especially for his interpretations of Romantic piano music, although he also contemporaries such as Dmitri Kabalevsky dedicated himself. Due to an injury Flier soon withdrew from the concert scene and became a professor at the Moscow Conservatory, where he produced many important students. Among Rodion Shchedrin, Wiktoria Postnikowa, Mikhail Pletnev, Lev Vlasenko, Mikhail Faerman, Bella Davidovich, Regina Schamwili, Shoshana Rudiakow, and Mūza Rubackytė. His chamber music partners included the famous Daniil Shafran.
