Yakov Protazanov

Yakov Alexandrovich Protasanow (Russian Яков Александрович Протазанов, scientific transliteration Yakov Aleksandrovich Protazanov; * 23 Januarjul / February 4 1881greg in Moscow, Russia, .. † August 9, 1945 ) was a Russian- Soviet film director.

Life

He was one of the pioneers of Russian cinema. Protasanow began to run in 1909 directing. With his masterpieces Pique Dame ( 1916) and Father Sergei (1917 ), the latter staged together with Alexander Volkov, he became known to an international audience. He is considered the discoverer of the actor Ivan Mosschuchin, with whom he produced several films.

1918 emigrated Protasanow first to France, but returned four years later returned to the Soviet Union. From 1924 he has worked with Vsevolod Pudovkin, for the newly established Mezhrabpom -Rus film company. His science fiction film Aelita (1924 ) is one of the few of its kind in the early Soviet film. It impresses with its futuristic design.
