Yakov Yakovlevich Etinger

Yakov Yakovlevich Etinger (Russian Яков Яковлевич Этингер; born August 12, 1929 in Minsk ) is a Russian economist and historian.

Life

Etinger was born as Yakov Lasarevich Siterman. His parents died in the Holocaust. He was adopted by the physician Yakov Etinger Giljarowitsch and changed their name accordingly. He began studying at the Faculty of History of Moscow University. 1950 his adoptive father was arrested because of critical remarks ( " slanderous inventions" ) about Stalin and Beria. After this had died in prison, even Yakov Etinger J. was imprisoned. In 1954 he was released and rehabilitated. After graduating, he worked at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

After 1989, he participated in the founding of the human rights organization "Memorial".
