Yale Bowl

The Yale Bowl is a football stadium in New Haven, Connecticut, located on the border of West Haven, about 2 kilometers west of the main campus of Yale University. It was opened in 1914 and today has a capacity of 64 269 spectators. Originally it stood at 70 869, but was reduced several times by renovations. The stadium is used primarily as the home of the NCAA Yale Bulldogs, who play in the Ivy League. Between 1973 and 1974, when Yankee Stadium was renovated and Giants Stadium was under construction, the New York Giants also played at the Yale Bowl.

History

Construction of the stadium was in August 1913. Firstly, the pitch was dug and then filled up with the excavated earth within a berm to to get an elliptical bowl (german bowl ). It was the first bowl -shaped stadium in the United States and inspired the design of several such stages, such as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Rose Bowl Stadium and Michigan Stadium. On 27 February 1987, the stadium was declared as a National Historic Landmark.
