Yale School of Drama

The Yale School of Drama in New Haven, Connecticut, is part of the Yale University and a leading training institute for theater professions in the United States.

It provides as part of a " Graduate School " training for acting, directing, dramaturgy and the professions of theater writer and critic, and - but also for the technical aspects of the stage being such as costume making, set design, lighting and sound control as well as commercial aspects (theater management).

History

At the origin of the current institution was the active theater society of Yale University, which was founded in 1900 Yale Dramatic Association. In 1924 the patron Edward S. Harkness was willing to finance a drama department at the School of Fine Arts at Yale University and at the same time to build an appropriate theater building. The first Master of Fine Arts in the Department of Drama was awarded in 1931. In 1955 the Department has been to school, so elevated to the rank faculty. Yale played here a pioneering role within the Ivy League. 1966, the Yale Repertory Theatre was launched.
