Yamagata (Yamagata)

Yamagata (Japanese山形 市, -shi) is a city and the administrative center of Yamagata Prefecture Japan.

The city was founded on April 1, 1889.

Geography

Yamagata lies in a wide basin that heats up in the spring and summer quickly and is often foggy and damp. To the east, in Miyagi Prefecture on the Pacific coast, it is instead rather clear and mild. In winter, it snows frequently in the pelvis, while the Pacific coast remains clear and free of snow.

The Mogami flows from south to north through the city. The Ou mountain range is located east of the city.

Attractions and Festivals

A fall tradition is imoni -kai (芋 煮 会, Süßkartoffelkochparty ). Taro potatoes, thinly sliced ​​meat and vegetables are heated at picnic areas in the pot. Popular Picnic areas are the river banks of the Mamigasaki. Once a year, the city government donated a giant Imoni pot.

In the center of the city west of the station is the Kajo Kōen (霞 城 公园), in the castle due to the Mogami Yoshiaki Feudalherrschers. While much of the park from sports facilities and public buildings is that the rebuilt walls, the eastern gate and the moat are impressive. The park is planted with cherry trees. The park is a natural and social history museum. Not far from the park, the Yamagata Museum of Art is offering Japanese and European art.

The Hanagasa hard (花笠 祭りHanagasa matsuri ), which is held every August, is one of the biggest festivals in Tohoku.

Every two years there is the International Documentary Film Festival of Yamagata.

The famous temple Ryūshaku -ji ( Yama -dera ) is located within the city, 15 minutes by train from the center.

Near the town is the winter sports area Zaō, which is famous for the frost in the trees.

Education

In the city of Kojirakawa and Iida - campus is the University of Yamagata. On the Kojirakawa campus is the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education, Art and Science. On the Iida - campus is the Faculty of Medicine with the school nurse and the University Hospital.

Sports

Yamagata is the home of the football club Montedio Yamagata from the J. League, whose games are played in the PGA Yamagata Park.
