Yamato period

The Yamato period (大 和 时代Japanese, Yamato- jidai ) is a period in Japanese history, in the reign of the Japanese imperial court of the province of Yamato.

Although this period is generally set 250-710, the actual beginning of the reign of Yamato is controversial. The predominance of the Yamato court was made up to one unspecified date the Kofun period by other political groups from various parts of Japan to a certain degree in question. At least it is certain that the clan of Yamato had a significant advantage over their neighbors in the 6th century.

The period is divided by the construction of the capital of Asuka- kyō in today's Nara prefecture into two sub- sections:

  • Kofun period of about 250-538,
  • Asuka period 538-710

However, since the Kofun period as archaeological period ( it is based on the special tumuli occurrence ( Kofun ) ), while the Asuka period is considered as a historical period, prevails among many researchers to believe that this dichotomy is obsolete. At least in Japan, the concept of dichotomy in Kofun and Asuka period is not very popular today.
