Yame, Fukuoka

Yame (Japanese八 女 市, -shi, literally, eight women ) is a Japanese city in southern Fukuoka Prefecture on the island of Kyūshū.

Geography

Yame located south of Fukuoka and Kurume, and north of Kumamoto.

History

The city was founded in 1954 from a church (福岛 町) and three villages (川 崎 村,忠 见 村,冈山 村) of the district YAME formed.

Attractions

Around the city there are several ancient burial mounds, including the keyhole-shaped Kofun - Iwatoyama (岩 戸 山 古坟).
