Yan Pascal Tortelier

Yan Pascal Tortelier ( born April 19, 1947 in Paris ) is an internationally operating French violinist and conductor.

Life

Tortellier is the son of French cellist Paul Tortelier. After his training he was in the years 1989 to 1992 conductor of the Ulster Orchestra before he was eleven years until 2003 Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in Manchester. From 2005 to 2008 he was a guest conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Since 2009 he was the conductor of the Orquestra Sinfonica do Estado de Brazil's São Paulo ( OSESP ) and at the same guest conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. His successor in São Paolo is since 2012 the American conductor Marin Alsop.

Tortellier took up the cello concertos by Saint- Saens and Arthur Honegger with cellist Julian Lloyd Webber.
