Yanaul

Janaul (Russian Янаул, Bashkir Яңауыл / Jañauyl ) is a city in the Republic of Bashkortostan (Russia) with 26,924 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in Uralvorland, about 230 km north of the capital of Republic of Ufa at the mouth of the Janaulka in Bui, a left tributary of the Kama.

Janaul is the Oblast administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

A settlement in place of the present-day town has been known since the first half of the 18th century. By 1914, the station was Janaul settlement with the construction of the railway line Kazan Yekaterinburg, which in 1936 ( according to other sources 1938) was awarded the status of an urban-type settlement and 1991 city law.
