Yang Hui

Yang Hui (Chinese杨 辉/杨 辉, Pinyin Yáng Hui; * to 1238 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang; † around 1298 in China) was a Chinese mathematician at the time of the Song Dynasty ( 960-1279 ).

It dealt among other things with magic squares and the binomial theorem. In his book Xiangjie Jiuzhang Suanfa 1261 is the oldest surviving Chinese representation of Pascal's triangle. He did not even discovered this, but points out the triangle of Jia Xian ( 1050 ) and its li cheng shi shuo ( "Determination of coefficients by means of graph " ) over -called method of calculating square and cube roots to have. However, Pascal's Triangle is still referred to in China as Yang Hui triangle. In 1275 he published with Xugu Zhaiqi Suanfa and Suanfa Tongbian Benmo two more books on mathematics.
