Yang Yu (swimmer)

Yang Yu ( Chinese:杨雨, Yáng Yǔ; born February 6, 1985 in Hangzhou) is a Chinese freestyle swimmer.

Yang Yu won her first international medal at the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka over 200 m. Even more successful ran the World Championships two years later in Barcelona. With the 4x100m medley relay, she won the gold medal over 200 meters and the 4x200m freestyle relay bronze. The 2004 Olympic Games in Athens were successful for the athlete from Zhehang. On the single track 200 m freestyle she failed even in the semi-finals, with the 4x100m freestyle relay was eighth and thus last in the final. However, with the 4x200m freestyle relay she won the silver medal in the relay of China. On January 18, 2004, she presented also in Berlin with a time of 2:04,04 min a new record in the butterfly on, which was only broken on December 13, 2007 by Otylia Jędrzejczak.

The World Cup in Montreal brought a renewed winning a medal in the 200 meters, this time bronze for Yang Yu. With the 100 -meter freestyle relay, the Chinese finished sixth. The only previous title on a single line, she won at the 2006 Short Course World Championships in Shanghai over 200 meters freestyle.
