Yann Sommer ( born December 17, 1988 in Morges ) is a Swiss football goalkeeper. In the seasons 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13 he became Swiss champion with FC Basel. Since May 2012, he also plays for the Swiss national football team.
Career as a player
Association
Summer began with the football game at FC Herrliberg and already played at Concordia Basel. During 2003, he stepped over to the youth from FC Basel. In 2005, he received his first professional contract and became the goalkeeper at FC Basel U -21 team in the first league. He was taken to the 2006/07 season in the first team and was then behind Franco Costanzo and Louis Crayton number three in the gate of FC Basel.
Summer was in July 2007 when FCB a new contract, but to gain match practice, he was loaned out to FC Vaduz Liechtenstein. He was goalkeeper From July 2007 to January 2009 in Vaduz. In the 2007 /08 season he was with the team Challenge League champion and rose to. In early January 2009, the FC Basel Yann Sommer summoned back into the first team, after Franco Costanzo injured.
For the 2009/10 season summer is on loan from FC Basel for a year at the Grasshopper Club Zurich. He then returned as the second goalkeeper for FCB. End of season 2010/11 he became Swiss champion with FC Basel. Summer replaced in the 2011/12 season as goalkeeper Franco Costanzo. Again, it was summer with his team's Swiss champion and cup winner also Swiss. In the latter competition, he contributed his share by ( result 1-1 after extra time ) in a penalty shootout saved two penalties in the final on 16 May 2012.
At the end of the 2012/13 season was summer again with FC Basel Swiss champion. In a long season with a total of 76 games ( 36 in Super League, six in the Cup, 20 in the Champions League and Europa League, including 14 test matches ), he had a total of 66 missions, including all 36 in the league and nine times in the Champions and Europa League.
For the 2014/15 season will change summer to the Bundesliga to Borussia Mönchengladbach. He signed on 10 March 2014, a contract until 30 June 2019.
National
Yann Sommer played for several youth national teams, including the Swiss U-16, U -17 and U-19 Juniors Juniors. His first international match in the Swiss U-16 team was on 26 August 2003, but it went 0-5 lost against the German U-16 juniors. His first international match in the Swiss U -17 team, he played on 20 November 2003 at 1-1 away draw against England U- 17th
He qualified with the Swiss U-21 national team for the final round of the U-21 European Championship in 2011 and was in this choice goalkeeper and captain. Summer stayed at this tournament until the final without conceding a goal, before he lost in the final with his team against Spain 0:2.
On May 30 2012 Yann Sommer made his debut in the senior national team in a friendly against Romania in the Swissporarena in Lucerne, in which the Swiss were subject to 0:1.
