Yann Tiersen
Yann Pierre Tiersen ( born June 23, 1970 in Brest ) is a French composer and multi-instrumentalist.
Outside of France, Tiersen was from 2001, in particular through his soundtrack to The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie and Good Bye, Lenin! known.
Life
Born Yann Tiersen on June 23, 1970 in Brest in Brittany. He grew up in Rennes. Having lived several years in Paris, he now lives in Ouessant. Since he was 6 years he plays the violin and piano. As a teenager, he played in several local post-punk bands guitar, which claims to significantly influenced by Joy Division and The Stooges. He studied at the music academies in Rennes, Nantes and Boulogne and is considered an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist.
Music
Tiersens music style combines French folk music, chanson and musette with elements of rock and pop music. The use of repetitive, while slightly varied sequences places him in the vicinity of the minimal music. The music Tiersens is often associated with the works of musicians Pascal Comelade, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman and Eric Satie. Due to its cooperation with other French musicians Tiersen is considered an important person within the new, often occupied with the label Nouvelle Chanson Chanson scene in France. For the enhanced perception of French pop music in Germany, among other things, the film made The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie, Tiersen for the movie has composed music.
Most of his publications Tiersen plays as a " one-man orchestra " field. He often makes use of piano, accordion, mandolin, bass, guitar, banjo, melodica, vibraphone and various rhythm instruments, partially with orchestral string arrangements. The majority of his songs are instrumentals, but on some guest musicians also sing or himself
