Yara International

Yara International is a company from Norway, based in Oslo. The company is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange in the OBX index.

Yara is a manufacturer and supplier of chemicals and industrial gases such as fertilizer, urea, nitrates and ammonia. The company was founded in 2004 by separation from the company Hydro Agri, a company range from Norsk Hydro.

International approximately 8,000 employees. In Germany Yara operates a distribution center in Dülmen, the former fertilizer plant in Popp village near Rostock and a factory for the production of ammonia and urea in Brunsbuttel.

History

On December 2, 1905 Sam Eyde and Kristian Birkeland found in Notodden the company Birkeland Norsk Hydro, in which they produce with a specially prepared process the nitrogen fertilizer nitrate of lime. Two years later they opened a new production facility and begin the construction of a power and fertilizer plant in Rjukan. In 1919 she opened follow in Copenhagen its first branch outside Norway, in 1945 an office in Stockholm in 1946 and one in San Francisco.

1928 will be expanded with the construction of new facilities in Porsgrunn the production, which was converted to the Haber- Bosch process. 1949 they built in Glomfjord the northernmost fertilizer plant in the world.

In 1972, the company is expanding its sales activities in Thailand and later other Asian countries. In 1973 she go a joint venture with Qatar Fertiliser Company in Qatar. In 1977 she opened her first office in Brazil.

In the years to follow numerous acquisitions, including in the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and Germany (including the Ruhr- nitrogen AG), and additional offices in China, Zimbabwe and Trinidad. This position develops over the years as a global leader in the fertilizer business.

In 2003, Hydro Agri decides to go public. In the course of this process it was decided to outsource the fertilizer sector as an independent company under the name Yara. March 25, 2004 Yara is listed on the stock exchange.
