Yarelys Barrios

Yarelys Barrios Castañeda ( born July 12, 1983 in Pinar del Río ) is a Cuban discus thrower.

Career

In her childhood, she played basketball, but moved at age 14 to athletics.

Her first international success was a win in the Central American and Caribbean Championship 2005. Following year she won at the Central American and Caribbean Games silver medal. In 2007, she won at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro and at the Universiade and won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Osaka with 63.90 meters.

In 2008 she improved her personal best to 66.13 meters and won at the Olympic Games in Beijing silver with 63.64 meters. With best jump of 66.40 meters again improved in 2011, she won gold at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara. 2012 she won at the Olympic Games in London with 66.38 m 4th place

At the World Championships 2013 in Moscow, she won the bronze medal with a distance of 64.96 m.

Yarelis Barrios is 1,72 m tall and weighs 89 kg. At the Sports University of Havana, she was trained for sports teacher.
