Yarovoye

Jarowoje (Russian Яровое ) is a city in the Altai region of southern West Siberia (Russia) with 18,604 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city lies on the north bank of the Salt Lake Bolschoye Jarowoje (Russian Большое Яровое ), about 400 kilometers west of the regional capital Barnaul in the western part of the Kulunda steppes. The northern neighbor city Slavgorod is only 8 and the border with Kazakhstan, only 15 kilometers away.

The city is Jarowoje the region administratively subordinated directly.

History

The town was founded in 1944, as one during the Second World War from a Krasnoperekopsk in Crimea (now Ukraine ) was established evacuated bromine chemical plant for production on the basis of the salts obtained from the Bolschoye - Jarowoje Lake again. The place was named after the lake (Russian jar around for high, steep bank).

In 1966 the status of an urban-type settlement was awarded on 30 March 1993 Jarowoje received city rights.
