Yasny, Orenburg Oblast

Jasny (Russian Ясный ) is a town with 17,363 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the far east of Orenburg Oblast in the Russian Federation. Jasny is about 500 km from the regional capital Orenburg away. The city's name means bright, clear or light in Russian.

History

The city was founded in 1961 as the site of the " Kijembajewski Mining and Processing Combine " (Russian Киембаевский горнообогатительный комбинат ). The company still exists today and is one of the major employers in the city. It is extracted and processed asbestos in mining.

Jasny received city rights in 1979. In Soviet times, there was a rapid development of the population, which has increased from 500 inhabitants in 1959 to 27,500 in 1992. Since then, the population has been declining gradually.

Economy and Transport

Economically, the city lives mainly on asbestos removal. Besides the Kiembajewski Mining and Processing Combine, there are Orenburgasbest, a building materials factory, as well as companies from the food industry.

A small branch of the railway links the town to the big city Orsk, about 90 km from Jasny away.

Attractions

In the vicinity of the town of Kamennoje Lake is ( to German Steinsee ), the seabed consists of granite.

Missile base

Near the town Jasny the base Dombarowski the Strategic Missile Forces ( RWSN ) of the Russian armed forces with the corresponding closed estate is Komarowski (former code name Dombarowski -3). For base includes 30 west and north of the city distributed missile silos for R -36M intercontinental missiles. From there, a R- 36M2 missile was first launched on 22 December 2004. Under the name of Baikonur Jasny the base is also used commercially. The first launch of a satellite on July 12, 2006, when a Dnepr - 1 rocket to American satellite took Genesis 1 into space successfully.
