Yasufumi Tanahashi

Yasufumi Tanahashi (Japanese棚 桥 泰 文, Yasufumi Tanahashi, born February 11, 1963 in Gifu Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP), a member of the Shūgiin, the lower house, and former ministers. In the LDP, he belongs to the Tsushima faction.

Life

After studying law at the University of Tokyo Tanahashi 1987 officials in MITI. In 1993, he left the ministry and began to work in Ōgaki as a lawyer. In 1996 Shūgiin - election he was first elected in the second constituency Gifu for the LDP to parliament and confirmed there since then three times.

2004 appointed Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichirô Tanahashi as minister of state for science and technology, food safety and Imformationstechnologie in his third cabinet. After a year he was replaced by Iwao Matsuda.

In Shūgiin Tanahashi is a member of the Japanese - Korean Parliamentary Group and leads since 2005 the Special Committee on Political Ethics and Elections.

In the election for the LDP presidency in 2007 Tanahashi led a group of MPs who tried to convince Koizumi to reapply. This declined to return as party leader and prime minister. In the election of 2008 Tanahashi drew himself a candidate be considered, but did not find the necessary support of 20 MPs.
