Yasunari Kawabata

Kawabata Yasunari (Japanese川端 康 成, Kawabata Yasunari, * June 11, 1899 [A. 1] in Osaka, † April 16, 1972 in Zushi by suicide ) was a Japanese writer and Nobel Prize for Literature in 1968.

With the prize money since 1974 gives the ( Yasunari Kawabata - Kinenkai川端康成 记念 会, ) the Yasunari Kawabata Literature Prize Kawabata Memorial Foundation.

Life

Kawabata was two years old orphan and lost too soon his grandparents. As a student at the University of Tokyo, he founded together with Yokomitsu Riichi the neo - Impressionist Journal Bungei Jidai ( The artistic era ).

Works

Kawabata's debut was in 1926 Izu no odoriko (Dancer of Izu ). His novella Yukiguni ( Land of Snow ) appeared in 1937; she tells the story of a love affair between a Tokyo businessman and a provincial geisha in a remote village. Yukiguni was shortly after the publication of the classic and established Kawabata as one of Japan's leading writers. In Senbazuru ( Thousand Cranes ), he led some subjects continued from this work. In Meijin ( engl. The Master of Go, translated by Edward G. Seidensticker, no German translation ) of 1954, he describes the role of last Hon'inbō Shūsai against the young Minoru Kitani. Yama no oto For ( A cherry tree in winter), he received the 1954 Noma Literary Prize.
