River network with the Yata River in Beni lowlands

The Yata River is a river in the lowlands of the South American inland Bolivia.

Course

The Rio Yata has a total length of 1006 kilometers. It rises at an altitude of 165 m, approximately 25 kilometers northeast of the Rogagua Lake district ( bolivian: municipality ) in the Province of Santa Rosa Ballivián in Beni Department.

The river flows along its entire length in a largely north-easterly direction and this crosses the municipality Exaltación in the province and the province Vaca Díez Yacuma where the river over long distances forms the border between the municipality and the municipality Riberalta Guayaramerín.

River length

After a little more than 1,000 kilometers, the Río Yata united at an altitude of 107 m with the Río Mamoré, a tributary to the Amazon. Due to the low gradient and the flatness of the terrain, the river, especially in the upper reaches and middle reaches to a large number of meanders and Altwasserarmen. There, where the river loops touch today, is expected to break-in points for the future, so that the length of the river is reduced in this way gradually. Between source and mouth of the Río Yata is now a linear distance of just under 400 kilometers.

Colonization

The Yata River flows along its entire length by bushland and tropical forest and has only a very small settlement on. Major towns have formed only where the highway crosses the river Ruta 8. This is the town pontoon Santa Teresa del Yata, and at river kilometer 904, the town of Rosario del Yata at river kilometer 105.
