Yautepec ( officially: Yautepec de Zaragoza) is a city and capital of a district of the same. It is located in the Mexican state of Morelos.

The city is the administrative center for the surrounding towns. In the 2005 census Yautepec itself had 39,861 inhabitants. The municipality has an area of 203 km ² and 84,513 inhabitants.

Archaeological excavations revealed that this area was originally inhabited by the Olmec.

At the time of the Aztecs Yautepec had great political significance and influence on several city-states. Yautepec was the largest city in the region and had a magnificent Royal Palace. The Aztec domination continued until 1521. This year, the city was conquered by Hernán Cortés in his expedition to the Lake Texcoco.
