Yavoriv

Yavoriv (Ukrainian Яворів; Russian Яворов / Jaworow, Polish Jaworów ) is a Rajonhauptstadt in northern Galicia (Ukraine ) near the border with Poland. It lies on the River Schklo and belongs to the Lviv Oblast (Lviv ). Sokal is located about 80 km north of Lviv ( Lemberg).

It was first mentioned in writing in 1376 and received a city charter in 1569 lent. The city was the residence of Polish King John III. Sobieski, but lost with the rise of Lviv the capital of Galicia under the Habsburgs in importance, the city charter was awarded again until 1939. Under Austrian rule from 1772 to 1918, the place was still in 1850 the seat of a district team. On 14 November 1903, the local train Lviv ( Kleparow ) Jaworów was extended to the village, the route was abandoned in the 1960s and replaced by a new building of Kamjanobrid. During World War II there was a large ghetto in place until 1939, the town belonged to Poland and was here in 1921 in the Province of Lviv, then from 1939/45 in Ukraine.

In Yavoriv the poet Ossyp Makowej was born.
