Yazoo City is a city in Mississippi and has 14,550 inhabitants ( census of 2000 ). The town is the administrative seat of Yazoo County. It was named after the river Yazoo River.

History

Yazoo City was founded in 1824 under the name Hannan 's Bluff. Later the name was changed in Manchester, 1839 finally. Yazoo City, after the indian language word Yazoo, which translates as " river of death " means Ten years later, Yazoo City Yazoo County Seat of the County was.

1853 occurred in the city, a yellow fever epidemic. During the American Civil War, there was the Yazoo River, a shipyard of the Confederacy, which was destroyed in 1863 by the Union troops. After a short reconquest by the Confederates occupied in 1864, the Union troops the city and burned down most of the buildings. 1878, then the second yellow fever epidemic occurred. 1904 three-quarters of the city were destroyed in a fire further. The fire spread quickly through the winds, but spared the County Courthouse, as it was behind a channel. Within the next two years the city has been rebuilt. The Mississippi flood in 1927 damaged the city.

24 April 2010, large parts of the town were destroyed by a tornado, ten people came to our lives.
