Yazoo Records

Yazoo Records is a record label that was founded in 1967 by Nick Perls and Bernie Klatzko (as Belzona Records) and has specialized in blues, jazz and other early American music.

The first five LPs (L 1001 to L 1005) were first published under the label Belzona Records. Then the name for legal reasons, had to be modified Perls decided to Yazoo Records (the river forms the eastern boundary of the Yazoo Delta Blues on the Mississippi ). The first five albums then appeared again under the new name.

The Belzona / Yazoo logo, drawn in the Art Deco style, peacock, has been taken over by the Black Patti label in the 1920s.

In Yazoo Records Perls Nick published recordings that had been made in the 1920er/1930er years by musicians such as Charlie Patton, Blind Willie McTell, the Memphis Jug Band, Blind Blake and Blind Lemon Jefferson and his time issued as a 78 rpm vinyl records.

On the sister record label Blue Goose Records, which was founded in 1970, recordings of African-American blues musicians and younger Blue performers from the U.S. and the UK have been published.

1989 Yazoo been bought up by Shanachie Records, so that many of the original in the 1960s issued to the 1980s recordings even today - although for the most part in other compilation - available are ( roughly in the series Times Is not Like They Used To Be ).
