Øye stave church

Øye Stave Church is a reconstructed in the 1950s, Norwegian stave church, about 60 kilometers north-west from the pass into Fageres that connects East and West Norway.

History

The church was first mentioned in 1327 on the occasion of the collection of tithes by the apostolic nuncio. A carved portal of this church has been dated to the second half of the 12th century. Since the church was built on the shores of Lake Vangsmjøse and had to survive many floods, she suffered rot and they ripped from 1747. A large part of the components, a total of 156 parts, one stowed under the floor of a new church. These residues discovered in 1935 happened to be a craftsman. Then we reconstructed stave church in the years 1955-1957, in addition unused material was used by the restoration of stave church Heddal in 1850. In 1965, the church was finally consecrated.
