Yechiel Michel Epstein

Rabbi Yechiel Michel HaLevi Epstein ( Yechiel Michel Epstein, * 1829 in Bobruisk, Russian Empire, now Belarus, † 1908) was a halachic authority and Posek in Lithuania, often Aruch ha Shulchan named after his main work.

Life

He was a Levi ( as part of their name: ha -Levi ), his family was wealthy and belonged to the arms supplier of the tsarist army. Epstein studied the Torah at the residence, got married, got the Smicha and in 1863 Rabbi of Novozypkov (east of Minsk), there were a large number chasidischer Jews, most followers of Chabad Lubavitch. Epstein teamed up with their intellectual leader, Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, together and so increased its acceptance in Hasidic circles; nine years later was Rabbi Epstein of Novogrudok (south of Minsk), where he worked for 30 years until his death.
