yEd

YEd is a free visualization program for creating and editing diagrams. It can be used for different types of charts, graphs, among other things, network diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, BPMN diagrams, mind maps, organizational charts, and entity-relationship diagrams. yEd stores diagrams in XML -based GraphML format, it can be so good to use as the editing program for generated graphs.

YEd is developed and distributed by the yWorks GmbH in Tübingen. The name " yEd " comes from the composition of the letter " y" with the abbreviation " Ed " for English, " Editor". yEd is pronounced as " uai - Ed " (see links below).

Functions

As most visualization programs allows the user yEd diagrams with different character elements and compounds from different palettes to draw, as well as their own representations of graphic elements to use.

YEd may order complex amounts of data automatically according to different algorithms. These algorithms include, for example, a hierarchical layout ( for hierarchical or almost - hierarchical structures), an orthogonal layout ( for networks such as UML class diagrams), an organic layout (especially suitable for Entity-Relationship and UML diagrams ), a tree layout ( for trees and tree-like structures), as well as a swimlane layout. The chart elements can be grouped into arbitrary nesting. The large number of configuration mechanisms raise yEd from the other visualization programs.

YEd allows you to import data from various formats and to generate graphs. These import formats include Microsoft Excel xls spreadsheet data, the GEDCOM format for genealogy data, and arbitrary XML formats via XSLT stylesheets -. Predefined among others those for the script format of Apache Ant for dependency information for the construction of software and OWL for Description of ontologies.

Likewise yEd can export data to various formats, among others in EMF, PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, PDF, EPS, SVG, SWF.

Since version 3.7 allows an interface with direct access to the search engine IconFinder import any symbols in custom palettes.
