Yedidya Ya'ari

Jedidiah Ja'ari (Hebrew: ידידיה יערי; * June 30, 1947 ) is an Israeli Major General ( Aluf ). He was from 2000 to 2004 commander of the Israeli Navy.

In July 1969, when he was part of the commando unit Schajetet 13, he was seriously wounded and erroneously declared during operation Bulmus 6, an attack on the fortified Green Island in the Gulf of Suez for dead.

After he retired from active military service Ja'ari worked for three years as a camera assistant in the Herzliya Studios. During the Yom Kippur War, he rejoined the IDF. Ja'ari is a board of military service company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd..

He holds a bachelor 's degree in Middle Eastern history from the University of Haifa and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.

Ja'ari is a grandson of Meir Ja'ari, a former leader of the Mapam party. He is the father of three children and lives in Merhavia.
