Yedikule Fortress

Yedikule, the " Castle of Seven Towers", is right on the Theodosian land walls (Turkish Teodos II Suru ). It is part of the early 5th century, erected under Emperor Theodosius II, about 20 km long fortification in Istanbul.

The complex is located directly on the wall. It is partly Byzantine, partly Ottoman origin. The towers are connected by thick walls. The Ottomans, it served as a prison, treasury and execution. The most common victims of execution Yedikule was the eighteen year old Sultan Osman II, who was strangled on May 20, 1622 one of the towers.
