Yele language

The language yeli Dnye is on Rossel, one for Louisiade archipelago belonging island of 3,750 people spoken (counting the Rossel Health Centre in 1998, quoted from Ethnologue 2005). Alternative names are Yele ( mostly used in the literature ), Yeleyong, Yela, Yeletnye, Yelidnye or Rossel.

Genetic situation

Since Yele is not Austronesian, it is regarded as so-called Papuan language. Whether Yele among the East Papuan languages ​​( eg in Ethnologue and Ruhlen 1991), or an isolated language, could not be fully understood until now.

Phonology

Yeli Dnye is known for some unusual phonological properties. The language has 90 phonemes, the phoneme largest in the Pacific. The consonantal phonemes area, many of these also involve double articulation.

Morphosyntax

The language is also known for their high morphosyntactic complexity: The language is polypersonal and marked on the verb not only grammatical properties of the subject but also the object. The language is extremely fusional and encodes this information along with numerous other morphosyntactic information ( tense, aspect, mode and many more) in one morpheme. The verbal and nominal paradigms are also highly suppletive.
